Position Overview
The Vice President, Strategy & Reputation Management serves as a senior strategic leader, overseeing the development and execution of comprehensive reputation management programs and integrated communications strategies for clients. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive acts as a trusted advisor to C-suite clients, drives proactive reputation-building initiatives, leads crisis preparedness and response, and ensures alignment between client goals and agency deliverables. The role combines high-level counsel, team leadership, business development, and thought leadership to protect and enhance client reputations in dynamic environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead integrated reputation management and strategic communications strategies that proactively build, protect, and elevate client brands across traditional, digital, and emerging channels.
- Serve as primary strategic counselor to high-profile clients, providing expert guidance on reputation risks, opportunities, stakeholder engagement, and long-term positioning.
- Oversee crisis communications planning, including scenario development, simulations, real-time response leadership, and post-crisis recovery strategies.
- Direct cross-functional teams in executing reputation programs, media relations, issues management, executive visibility, thought leadership, and stakeholder outreach.
- Identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities in reputation dynamics; deliver insightful market intelligence, competitive analysis, and proactive recommendations.
- Drive new business development by pitching strategic reputation solutions, managing RFPs, building scopes of work, and cultivating relationships with prospective C-level clients.
- Manage account profitability, budgets, resource allocation, and performance metrics to achieve revenue goals and exceed client expectations.
- Mentor and develop account teams, fostering a culture of high performance, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to agency thought leadership through original content, speaking engagements, industry insights, and internal strategy initiatives.
- Monitor media landscapes, reputation metrics, and campaign outcomes using analytics tools to optimize strategies and demonstrate ROI.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications, reputation management, or crisis advisory, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role at a PR/communications agency or in-house equivalent.
- Proven track record of successfully managing high-profile client reputations, leading crisis responses, and delivering measurable results in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
- Deep expertise in corporate reputation, issues/crisis management, media relations, stakeholder engagement, digital strategy, and executive positioning.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, counseling skills, and ability to influence senior executives and stakeholders with gravitas and sound judgment.
- Strong leadership presence with experience building, mentoring, and managing high-performing teams.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; adept at crafting executive-level materials, speeches, op-eds, and presentations.
- Proficiency in PR tools, media monitoring platforms, analytics software, and emerging digital channels.
- Established media relationships and comfort navigating complex, sensitive situations with discretion and poise.
